Questions
Questions owners ask first
If yours isn't here, call the office. You'll reach me or leave a message I'll return.
What happens in the first consultation?
We talk for about thirty minutes about the business and what you need. I'll tell you whether it's something I handle, roughly how the work would go, and what it would cost. If it isn't a fit, I'll try to point you to someone it is.
How do you charge?
Most formation work, contract templates and smaller reviews are a fixed fee, quoted in writing before I start. Larger matters, like a sale, are billed by the hour against a written estimate. Either way, the engagement letter states the fee and what it covers.
Will I work with you or with someone else?
With me. This is a one-lawyer office. A paralegal may help with filings and scheduling, but I do the legal work and I'm the one you call.
Do you only work with Nashville businesses?
Most clients are in Davidson County and the counties around it, but I work with any business where I'm admitted to practice. Meetings can be at the office, at your business or by video.
Can you help if I've already signed?
Often, yes. Send me the agreement and tell me what's gone wrong. Sometimes there's room to renegotiate; sometimes the best step is understanding exactly what you agreed to.
Do you handle lawsuits?
I handle the business side of disputes, like demand letters and negotiated settlements. If a matter is heading to trial, I'll refer you to a litigator and stay involved if you want me to.
What should I bring to the first meeting?
Whatever you already have: formation papers, the contract in question, a letter of intent, a list of owners. If you have nothing yet, that's fine too.
Is what I tell you confidential?
What you share while seeking legal advice is treated as confidential. Still, please don't send sensitive details through the website form; we can cover them on the phone or in person.
